Cheap Chinese Tourbillon watches – few thoughts.

I have recently bought two Chinese watches with tourbillon, or maybe one of them should be call carrousel.

What I like about them is a price.

I cannot afford even the list expensive tourbillon watch, but for about 10 of the price of the cheapest TAG tourbillon watch I have two Chinese tourbillons.

Johnny Roger Pros and Cons.

I like design of the face of that watch 2.

Tourbillon which looks like tourbillon, not a carrousel 3.

Price – 700 on eBay 4.

Power reserve.

Cheap and poorly executed mechanism.

21600 vph and all loose .

When I checked it on Weishi 1900 it was a tragedy.

It can go fast 10 s day and moment later goes 6 s slow.

You can see it here .

Case, or body – very simple, stainless steel, round shape.

Looks quite plain .

Date dial has missing numbers from 16th to 24th.

Date hand is off center, showing date between two days – about 1 3 off.

Slow shipping.

It went over 50 days from China to the USA.

Maybe because of the Christmas season, but still it wend by the sea, on the ship from China to Germany, then by the air to NY, then by trucks to NC.

Akribos XXIV Pros and Cons.

Quite good quality mechanism, 28800 vph, very consistent 2.

Second Time Zone 4.

Tourbillon for less then 1000 I paid 650 on eBay 5.

Shipping from the USA, fast delivery.

Second time zone almost unreadable.

Very small register.

Is it carrousel or tourbillon.

Looks like carrousel, which isn t as beautiful as tourbillon at least for me .

Roman numbers on face of the watch to small and to narrow.

The tourbillon market in China.

Shining Zhu.

When Abraham-Louis Breguet patented his greatest ever invention on June 26, 1801, he could never have imagined that more than 200 years later, his tourbillon would be the complication most in demand among a group of affluent buyers, thousands of miles away in China.

From the time the Chinese watch market began to gain momentum in the mid-1990s, local buyers learned fast and acted faster.

Within ten years, as sales of mechanical watches increased, so did interest in complications.

Small groups of enthusiasts and aficionados formed, and these helped spread important knowledge to the general public, especially potential customers.

It s worth noting that, by average figures, more tourbillon watches are sold in China than anywhere else in the world, whereas the opposite is true for perpetual calendars and split-second chronographs.

Similarly, local manufacturers are investing fortunes in tourbillons while almost ignoring other traditional complications.

The reason the tourbillon is the most popular watch complication in China is, well, complicated.

The Chinese market has a reputation for preferring medium-size, time-only mechanical watches but these are for entry-level buyers who are purchasing their first or second timepiece.

As their experience and, especially, knowledge of watches grows, they start wanting to upgrade their collection with something more sophisticated.

Now, the ancient Chinese philosophers believe that the ultimate simplicity is ultimate complexity.

Apply this concept to complicated mechanical watches, and both the perpetual calendar and the split-second chronograph will seem too busy on the dial.

Only the tourbillon shows the clean dial and simple appearance which the wise man extols.

Secondly, a tourbillon is expensive.

Very expensive.

A serious watch buyer who wants to acquire something understated but at a premium price has few choices outside a tourbillon and a repeater.

Given the repeater s rarity and higher cost, he or she will likely choose a tourbillon.

It helps that not only experts but also the ordinary public can tell a tourbillon from a regular watch at a glance.

The unusual aperture on the dial, the moving carriage with the escapement inside, all these details hint at the complicated mechanism that sits quietly beneath.

Once recognized, it becomes a badge for the good taste and wealth of its owner.

Tourbillons for a limited budget.

That said, in China a tourbillon is not always expensive.

As mentioned, local watch manufacturers place great emphasis on this complication with the result that whereas a Swiss-made tourbillon costs upwards of US 50,000, a Chinese-made tourbillon sells for around US 3,000.

In fact China produces more tourbillons than any other country.

There are currently five manufacturers producing tourbillon movements in China.

They are Sea-Gull, Dan Dong, Beijing, Shanghai and Hangzhou.

Sea-Gull, the country s biggest movement manufacturer, has developed a complete range, including a flying tourbillon, off-center tourbillon, double tourbillon, orbital tourbillon, etc.

The entry price of a Sea-Gull tourbillon watch is just RMB 10,199 around US 1,500 .

This has also helped stimulate the tourbillon market in China.

Thanks to these makers, many Chinese watch buyers now have the opportunity to own a tourbillon, despite a limited budget.

At Beijing Watch, tourbillons account for more than 20 of sales.

Their flagship store in Wangfujing, Beijing, can sell one tourbillon watch every three to five days.

This higher ownership rate in turn contributes to the popularization of tourbillons in China.

More than two centuries after its invention, and far away from Abraham-Louis Breguet s Paris workshop, the tourbillon has Chinese watch buyers in a spin.

Which chinese tourbillon is the best.

There are a number of chinese made tourbillons eg Seagull, Shanghai, Beijing watch factory, PTS etc.

But which tourbillon is the best.

I can only afford one chinese made tourbillon and I would llike to get the right one.

Re Which chinese tourbillon is the best.

I would like suggest you go for Sea-gull.

But last time I visited website of Beijing Watch, they have very accurate Tourbillon watch -7 seconds per 24h and that was the first time that I knew the first mainland Tourbillon was made by Beijing Watch Co.

But still, I suggest you go for Sea-gull.

You are rich guy, I can only afford M163-S21, but in future I may consider get a Tourbillon.

It is so expensive, at least more expensive than a notebook computer.

Another problem is, my waist is not thick, very thin.

So a dial of over 40MM does not look great.

Re Which chinese tourbillon is the best.

I Bought A Stauer Automatic Tourbillon.

It Is Beautifully Made, Keeps Time Within 5-7 Sec A Day.

And I Could Not Be Happier With It.

Price 2000 And Worth Every Penny.

Re Which chinese tourbillon is the best.

any picture of it dear flstu52.

I realy don t know the Stauer company.

Re Which chinese tourbillon is the best.

Minorva has several Tourbillons by different manufacturers starting at 600.

Unlike the Staur Tourbillon the PTS Tourbillons that Minorva sells are hand wind versions.

I would go with Minorva s eBay store.

I have seen several go at auction for under 500 August 28th, 2007 at 02 56.

I think they start at 2250.

– Mine was 2600.

The prices are a but higher, but I think the better quality makes it well worth.

I dont consider myself rich, if I am rich, I will buy first and think later.

I am 45 this year hence I have worked 7 years more my guess than you.

I will save up for the watch.

The -7 seconds is actually much worst than Seiko spring drive – 1 second a day.

I remember that a Seagull tourbillon stainless steel model can be obtained for around 2000 USD.
