Cheap Chinese Tourbillon watches – few thoughts.

I have recently bought two Chinese watches with tourbillon, or maybe one of them should be call carrousel.

What I like about them is a price.

I cannot afford even the list expensive Swiss tourbillon watch, but for about 10 of the price of the cheapest TAG tourbillon watch I have two Chinese tourbillons.

Johnny Roger Pros and Cons.

I like design of the face of that 2.

Tourbillon which looks like tourbillon, not a carrousel 3.

Price – 700 on eBay 4.

Power reserve.

Cheap and poorly executed mechanism.

21600 vph and all loose .

When I checked it on Weishi 1900 it was a tragedy.

It can go fast 10 s day and moment later goes 6 s slow.

You can see it here .

Case, or body – very simple, stainless steel, round shape.

Looks quite plain .

Date dial has missing numbers from 16th to 24th.

Date hand is off center, showing date between two days – about 1 3 off.

Slow shipping.

It went over 50 days from China to the USA.

Maybe because of the Christmas season, but still it wend by the sea, on the ship from China to Germany, then by the air to NY, then by trucks to NC.

Akribos XXIV Pros and Cons.

Quite good quality mechanism, 28800 vph, very consistent 2.

Second Time Zone 4.

Tourbillon for less then 1000 I paid 650 on eBay 5.

Shipping from the USA, fast delivery.

Second time zone almost unreadable.

Very small register.

Is it carrousel or tourbillon.

Looks like carrousel, which isn t as beautiful as tourbillon at least for me .

Roman numbers on face of the watch to small and to narrow.

Which chinese tourbillon is the best.

There are a number of chinese made tourbillons eg Seagull, Shanghai, Beijing watch factory, PTS etc.

But which tourbillon is the best.

I can only afford one chinese made tourbillon and I would llike to get the right one.

Re Which chinese tourbillon is the best.

I would like suggest you go for Sea-gull.

But last time I visited website of Beijing Watch, they have very accurate Tourbillon watch -7 seconds per 24h and that was the first time that I knew the first mainland Tourbillon was made by Beijing Watch Co.

But still, I suggest you go for Sea-gull.

You are rich guy, I can only afford M163-S21, but in future I may consider get a Tourbillon.

It is so expensive, at least more expensive than a notebook computer.

Another problem is, my waist is not thick, very thin.

So a dial of over 40MM does not look great.

Re Which chinese tourbillon is the best.

I Bought A Stauer Automatic Tourbillon.

It Is Beautifully Made, Keeps Time Within 5-7 Sec A Day.

And I Could Not Be Happier With It.

Price 2000 And Worth Every Penny.

Re Which chinese tourbillon is the best.

any picture of it dear flstu52.

I realy don t know the Stauer company.

Re Which chinese tourbillon is the best.

Minorva has several Tourbillons by different manufacturers starting at 600.

Unlike the Staur Tourbillon the PTS Tourbillons that Minorva sells are hand wind versions.

I would go with Minorva s eBay store.

I have seen several go at auction for under 500 August 28th, 2007 at 02 56.

I think they start at 2250.

– Mine was 2600.

The prices are a but higher, but I think the better quality makes it well worth.

I dont consider myself rich, if I am rich, I will buy first and think later.

I am 45 this year hence I have worked 7 years more my guess than you.

I will save up for the watch.

The -7 seconds is actually much worst than Seiko spring drive – 1 second a day.

I remember that a Seagull tourbillon stainless steel model can be obtained for around 2000 USD.

Chinese Coaxial Tourbillon Review.

I thought I d write this review for anyone watching to buy this already, as I went through the same struggle not too long ago.

I found this one on ebay listed by a seller in Hong Kong.

Not much is spec d on the listing and the seller has done a lousy job on the pictures too.

The name is Sugess and it almost seems like an attempt on rebranding the replica Seagull watches in the interest of staying legit.

This one carries the new Seagull ST8260 coaxial movement and I really bought the watch for the movement more than anything else.

The case is highly polished and either same as or similar to the Seagull 818.

5mm X 11mm thick.

The crystal looks like Sapphire but my biggest complaint here is it doesn t carry an AR coat and you can see the black numerals on the dial fade away when the case is angled dependent to light conditions.

But the crystal is slightly domed, may be 1mm.

The caseback is crystal again and I must mention it is beautiful.

This is an amazing arrangement for the Geneva stripes and I ain t familiar enough to quote any other movements that are similar.

You see that the assembler has engraved Tourbillon into the arrangement we d not know otherwise.

p that could have been done without.

The ST8260 made for Seagull watches have an elaborate engraving to brand Seagull carries which cannot be seen here.

It is beautiful nevertheless.

I cannot find any faults with the assembly or the workmanship, I tried hard under a scope to find dust, hair, fingerprints but cannot notice any.

Good job Sugess.

To me this part stands out and makes the whole purchase worthwhile.

The engraving on the case back isn t bad either.

It is comparable to the ones found on Seagull watches.

Now getting to the areas of complaint.

To me the entire dial is a thumbs down.

I must mention that the dial again is free of dust, or fingerprints or any human residue.

But the entire design is busy for my liking.

The hour print markers are finished well, but the minute markers are off aligned and so are the markers around the tourbillon cage.

The hands IMO are too thin for this set up I know many will differ as this may be the classic Breguet corps arrangement .

But except for the markers, the pattern on the dial surface itself is well finished.

It is fine concentric circles around the hour markers and what is easily discernible around the center.

The watch came in a wooden box, sounds wooden but feels kinda light for real wood.

My guess is it may be reclaimed wood.

I don t like the orange color, feels less classy IMO but this can easily be refinished, which I intend to do anyways.

The inners are some synthetic material and the watch surprisingly came with both leather and stainless steel straps.

The leather is apparently genuine alligator and roughly 3mm at its widest.

Not the best of alligator straps but comes with a quick deployment buckle.

So you can get after market leather and switch the buckle.

The stainless steel strap feels light and cheap.

I must mention the piece was delivered roughly four weeks after placing the order.

Item Thumbs Comment Case Front Up Case Back Up Crystals Down No-AR Case Engraving Up Hands Down Too thin Movement Front Up Coaxial Movement Back Up Excellent Movement Accuracy Up Excellent sound Movement Engraving Up Dial Base Up Dial Markers – Dial Print Down Misaligned Straps Down Feel cheap Box Down Feels cheap Delivery Time Down Long at 28 days.

Before this purchase, I always thought coaxial is so pretty to look at.

Well here s a picture of my Kemmner and the Sugess side-by-side and I can t stop wonder the flying tourbillon is more engaging of the two.

This may be also because there s a clear view of the escape wheel in the flying tourbillon due to the smaller wheel.

In the ST8260 coaxial, you have to try hard to notice the escape wheel.

I plan to make-to-order the entire dial and replace the hands with leaf.

If you are reading this, would you be so kind to let me know in case you know of any who are in the business of custom watch dial fabrication in or around Texas.

Chinese tourbillon watch review.

Today, I am going to do a simple but special review of a tourbillon wristwatch.

For some reason, tourbillon has become extremely popular.

There were probably less than 1,000 tourbillon wristwatches in the world before the 1970s, but now almost everyone has heard of the term.

Personally, I am not that interested in tourbillon mainly because it is pretty useless in a wristwatch.

The mechanism is mainly for decorative purposes or novelty in wristwatches.

The biggest issue is the price tag.

A Swiss luxury brand tourbillon watch typically costs more than fifty thousand US dollars.

Even TAG Heuer just released a more affordable tourbillon, but it still costs around US 15,000.

Nevertheless, tourbillon is slowly losing its prestige aura.

The recent price reduction trend is likely due to the competition among the Swiss watchmakers, and, probably, Chinese made tourbillons.

I am more interested in pocket watches, but antique pocket watches with tourbillon are usually sold for more than US 30,000 at auctions.

I never thought I could afford a tourbillon until I saw that the price of a Chinese made tourbillon wristwatch can be less than a thousand.

I was very intrigued by this new specie.

The general impression of Chinese made watches are cheap, poorly made or fakes.

Not many reviews on Chinese watches can be found on the media.

However, most Chinese tourbillon reviews I found have been positive, but almost none of them tested the watch on the timing machine except one .

Out of curiosity, I decided to buy one to try it out myself.

I intentionally picked an unbranded, skeleton design.

There are several Chinese watchmakers that are capable of making tourbillon movements, and I think the one I chose was made by Shanghai Watch Company.

The whole ordering process went very smoothly, and the seller shipped the watch promptly.

However, I was stunned when I received it, because the tourbillon was still in motion when I opened the package.

Tourbillon is a rather fragile mechanism that can break easily upon impact, especially when rotating.

Of course, I understand the seller was being cautious and tested the watch beforehand, so the watch went straight into the package after the inspection.

I do not know if the delivery guy kicked the package like soccer, but throwing the package around during the transit would probably be the daily routine.

Fortunately, the seller packed the watch pretty well, so the watch looks unharmed.

Once, my friend and I were joking that watch magazines should really do a review on how durable tourbillon watches are by dropping Swiss and Chinese made tourbillon watches onto the floor.

Obviously, this Chinese tourbillon passed the first test, and that was a great first impression.

The first thing would be putting the watch onto a timing machine to see if it is still operating normally after the bumpy ride.

I would be a happy man if the watch can still maintain its discrepancy less than 20 seconds a day.

However, the result really amazed me.

Except the 6 o clock position about 11 seconds , the error margin is less than 5 seconds in the remaining five positions.

The tourbillon were also pretty stable according to the graph.

Interestingly, we had a Vacheron Constantin tourbillon watch beside us, so we put it onto the timing machine to do a comparison, and the Chinese tourbillon was even more accurate than the Vacheron Constantin one.

I will not comment too much on the appearance and finishing of the watch because it has more to do with person tastes.

I intentionally picked a skeleton style of movement, and I think this watch is great for the purpose of observing the tourbillon.

There is no second hand on the watch, but there is a sharp point on the tourbillon wheel.

Since the tourbillon rotates once every minute, so the tourbillon wheel itself can be treated as a second hand.

The design of the case is rather old fashioned and the strap is probably cheaply made, plastic fake leather, but I do not worry about those too much as they are easily replaceable.

Most parts were stamped out, and that is expected.

The quality of the coating looks nice but remains to be seen.

The pictures say them all, so I will not go into the detail.

The only complaint I have is those fake blue steel hands and screws.

I would prefer the original metal color than the poorly dyed blue color.

I really feel this tourbillon worth every penny of its price.

Again, I will emphasize that this is not an imitation but a real tourbillon.

It is one of the most affordable tourbillons on the market, and you get exactly that.

When compared with an ordinary model of a luxury brand, this watch offers way more for the price.

It costs less than one fiftieth of a Swiss tourbillon, so virtually everyone can afford it.

More importantly, the Swiss watchmakers definitely will feel the pressure from those strongly performing but affordable Chinese tourbillons.

Personally, I think Chinese watchmakers are capable of making quality tourbillons; what they need are better overall designs, quality control and attention to details.

However, that does not mean Chinese watch brands can challenge Swiss brands, at least for now.

Take automobile as an example, even if Toyota is capable of making a car that is better than Mercedes-Benz in term of performance and specification, in the end, it is still a Toyota.

Even though this Chinese tourbillon outperformed the mentioned Vacheron Constantin, the Swiss tourbillon represents more than just accuracy and design.

The owner of the Vacheron Constantin is showing his wealth, the history of the brand, and even a high-class, elegant impression of country Switzerland; that is not replaceable in a short time.

Besides making better products, Chinese has to elevate the reputation of its people and country as a whole before they have a chance to challenge the Swiss brands.

Only when Chinese rich people start choosing Chinese high-end watches over Swiss ones, Chinese brands are ready to conquer on the world, then.
